Bible Memory Resources
Memorizing Scripture is an essential element of meditating upon God's Word, which the psalmist says is the way of the righteous (Psalm 1:2). God commands through the Apostle Paul to "[L]et the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom (Col. 3:16). It is a discipline that yields glorious fruit in our journey of becoming more and more like Christ. It is a spiritual investment that ALWAYS yields spiritual profit in God's Kingdom!
Not only is Scripture memory an enormous help in sanctification, but hiding God's Word in your heart (Ps. 119:11) is the BEST way to strengthen your evangelism. Paul tells Timothy "from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." (2 Tim. 3:15) So we can't share with others, what we don't know ourselves. Let's have the Honey upon our lips often (Ps. 119:103), so others hear the sweet words of life and our saved by God's grace!

Just Getting Started?
Know your WHY.
Memorize Scripture to know God and make Him known. Abide in the living Word and be transformed for God's glory.
Repetition, Repetition, Repetition.
Scripture recited once a day for 100 days is better than Scripture recited 100 times in one day.
Engage The Senses.
Read, speak, listen, write, type, sing, associate unique ideas with your verses, and TELL OTHERS what you've memorized and how God is impacting your life.
Start small.
Start with one verse, then small passages, then larger passages, then chapters, then whole books. Some believers have been so transformed by the discipline that they go on to memorize the whole New Testament, then Old Testament.
Pray about what to memorize.
At different times in my walk with Christ, the Spirit has lead me to memorize particular Scriptures that I needed to meditate upon and learn from. As an evangelist based in the southern United States, I'm surrounded by people who claim to be a Christian, yet walk in darkness. So I find myself turning often to the letter of 1 John to preach about genuine Christianity. In October 2023 I began to memorize the letter. As a former addict to the pleasures of this world, memorizing Psalm 16:11 brought much comfort. Preaching verse by verse through the Gospel of John in our church plant and preaching many evangelistic sermons from that Gospel lead me to memorize the first chapter. I found myself (and another brother) misquoting the same passage repeatedly in the open-air, so each of us privately committed it to memory and it was joyful medicine! So please pray and be sensitive to the Spirit's leading in your selection of Scriptures to memorize.
Experiment with different methods.
There are many beneficial methods and systems to be able to quickly recall God's Word. Learn from the different approaches and see what works best for you. You CAN let the word of Christ dwell in you. It simply takes hard work, and that is what ties all the various methods together.
For the word of God is living and powerful,
and sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing even to the division of soul and spirit,
and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner
of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
And there is no creature hidden from His sight,
but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him
to Whom we must give account.
